Of course, the list would depend on the perspective of the individual drawing up the list.

Over time many polls have been conducted to determine the seven wonders of India and most opinions converge on the following list of the seven wonders of India including the polls conducted by Times of India and NDTV. The list includes the seven best wonders of India – these are only man-made wonders and excludes natural wonders. 7. I have always wanted to go to India. It would be amazing to go see all of these places. I would want to start with The Golden temple.

  8. I would rather say that the post is all about heritage temples in India – and in fact the fact about the heritage temple in Karnataka was an eye opener to me. India is a treasure house of so many such stories.
    Cheers!

  9. That’s a great list, thanks for sharing. We haven’t made it to India yet although it’s on the list but I definitely want to see the Taj Mahal and the Golden Temple in Amritsar. But I had not heard of a few of those places and the Khajuraho and Konark Sun temples although sound great. Will add them to the list. Thanks.

  10. There so few lists that we come across where we’ve covered all the places written about. We’re glad to say this is one of them! From our experience they all deserve a list, but there are so many more worthwhile entries, we can never come around to choosing the top 10!

  11. I want to visit them all. I definitely plan to make my next trip to India a much longer one so I can travel around more as there’s so many amazing things to see

  12. These are really wonderful places. And they are spread all across India. I have been to two. And the others are definitely on my bucket list. Glad you brought all their information in a single article here.

  13. There seem to be so many wonderful places to visit in India. I have only been to Chennai and Tamil Nadu – where there are a wealth of heritage sites and temples too. Now I want to see more!

  14. I didn’t realise how many incredible sights there was to be seen in India! The Taj Mahal is high on my to see list and after reading this the Golden Temple is as well now. This is a very good article with great description of each sight! Nicely written!

  15. India, India, India….I will get there. This is one country I really want to discover and it has so much to offer and reading this post is wetting my lips again!

  16. My knowledge about India’s sights basically includes only the Taj Mahal.
Nice to see that there are so many other monuments and temples worth visiting, they look amazing and well-preserved too.

  17. I must admit, I’m only familiar with Taj Mahal, but after seeing your list, I’m amazed at how much India has to offer. India has so many UNESCO heritage sites which are quite interesting, most especially Hampi.

  18. So beautiful! I adore the architecture. I can’t wait to get to India one day, but I freak out a bit in crowds and become overstimulated, so I really worry that will be a difficulty for me. I imagine it gets easier over time though?

  19. India is incredible rich on culture and ancient history which must be most interesting to see. We haven’t visited India because we tend to choose less populated places of the world. But we certainly miss out on not seeing the seven wonders of India.

  20. Great article highlighting the wonders to see. Taj Mahal would be incredible to see and easy to see why India is a hotspot with travellers with landmarks like this.

  21. I’ve only been to Mumbai for a short training and I can’t wait to go back to India to explore more. I very much appreciate your list as I’m only aware of the Taj Majal from what you’ve listed.

  22. Hampi is so high on our list. It is so incredible and in a different way from the Taj, which we’ve seen already. Konark Sun temple is also a place that looks hyper stunning! Bookmarked!

  23. Of course they’re ALL amazing … and of course I’d want to see all of them if I visited India, especially the Taj Mahal! But if I could only visit one, how could I pass up the chance to see Gomateshwara – world’s largest monolithic statue – especially being bathed with water, milk, tumeric and vermilion! That’d be amazing!

  24. Each of these architectural creations are amazing. The fine craftsmanship of the bygone era can never be replicated, no matter how technologically advanced we become. Have yet to visit some of these.

  25. This post gave me some great inspiration for where to go on our next India trip! So far from your list I have been to the Taj Mahal and Hampi. Definitely interested to check the other five out. The Golden Temple looks especially amazing!

  26. I love the thought of visiting the Golden Temple, I see temples a lot in Indian movies. I must really commend you, your blog posts give life to India’s architecture and landscape.

  27. Unfortunately I have only seen 1 out of the 7, shame on me! Naturally it was the Taj Mahal, in my personal opinion, no trip to India is complete without seeing this monument of love 😀 Great list, pinned for when I return to India so I can tick more off this list next time! #feetdotravel

  28. It’s a wonderful list and indeed they are wondrous. I would love to visit The Golden Temple but it seems quite far from Delhi and I wonder what’s that like for a foreigner visiting there?
    @ knycx.journeying

  29. It must be a magnificent sight to see the sun shine upon that golden temple! In India, I feel you have a lot of golden temples? don’t you? Are they all made with real gold? I hope to visit one of them someday!

  30. I love visiting historical sites. This list about the Seven Wonders of India is my kind of list! Taj Mahal is of course on anyone’s bucket list. Thank you for this list, which will hopefully come in handy soon!

  31. I love the collection of 7 wonders of India. Though i presented my thoughts in Khajuraho on how to promote Heritage Tourism in India but I still haven’t visited Hampi. I have read so much about it but have to be there to witness the intricate details in person!

  32. Well since my trip to India last year I cant wait to go back. I would love to visit Khajuraho and Konark Sun Temple. India is probably one of my best travel experiences to date.

  33. India has indeed so many amazing sites that has a lot of interesting history. India has been on my bucketlistfor years. I’m sure these wonders are pretty awesome when seen first-hand!

  34. I am lucky to have seen the Taj Mahal, one of these 7 wonders of India. It was indeed a unique experience and I am glad I got to see it. I wish though that the experience would have been different. I feel that they allow too many people at once and that ruins the entire visit, you can’t enjoy the same experience as Tagore had when he wrote that the Taj Mahal is a teardrop on the cheek of time.

  35. I have always wanted to see the Taj Mahal because it is indubitably the most famous Indian heritage site. But if we’re going to based it on my curiosity, what I really want to see is the Khajuraho. I have read about this temple from different books and blogs and I find it truly fascinating. How are they able to create a temple with erotic scupltures in those time and age is simply mind blowing to me.

  36. A few years back, we planned to do a trip to Mumbai and Agra to see the Taj, of course. But sadly we had to cancel our plans a week before our flights! I really do hope, I get to make it there one day – the Golden Palace looks stunning and reminds me so much of Kinkaku-ji in Kyoto.

  37. I have not been to Khajuraho, Nalanda, Konark and Sun Temple yet, though I have been to the other 3 places. I have been fascinated by what I see and read of Khajuraho. Indians were far more true to their hearts back in the ages, and I loved that they were pretty open about documenting their sensual sides.

  38. They are a wonderful collection. I think I can add a few more – Varanasi, Diamond triangle of Odisha, Ajanta-Ellora and so on. Infact, I can’t just stop!! 😉

  39. Hampi is on my radar from a long time! I had been to Konark Sun Temple when I was very small. Probably its time for return. I absolutely loved my time at the Golden Temple..it’s equally spectacular during both day and night time.

  40. I haven’t visited India Yet, and now this seven wonders just really adding more and more places for me to see in India. It’s really great to know that there are like this in India, apart from of course the famous Taj Mahal.

  41. The Konark Sun Temple somehow reminds me of Peruvian huacas, must have an incredible history. Pleasantly surprised to read that the Golden Temple accepts visitors of other faiths, even though it is of great importance to the Sikh community- that openness is quite rare, and it’s really something I’d love to see. Ancient India must have been incredibly advanced, is all I can guess, from the ruins of its learning centre.

  42. There’s really so much to see in India that most of us didn’t know about. This is truly a wonder of India that we should visit. I love the Konark Sun Temple, the history behind it and the innate beauty that it offers. I will surely include them all in my bucket list and hopefully I can visit all of them soon. Thank you so much for always feeding us about the beautiful destination India.

  43. I have never been to India but one day I do want to visit. It looks like such a great place to be so many beautiful sights. I totally adding this to my bucket list of places to travel!

  44. This is a wonderful list and I just realized that I have only seen three of these. These are all architectural marvels in themselves. So, now need to plan a trip soon to check the others out too.

  45. I can’ believe that I’m yet to see all these places though I live in India. They are such marvels in terms of history, culture and architecture. I have the Taj Mahal, Golden Temple and Hampi on my bucket list. I will definitely add the rest and I must visit all soon!

  46. I have seen a little bit of India but unfortunately none of the wonders you mention. My next trip to India will be to Ladakh and I hope to combine it with a Taj Mahal visit. There was no particular order on your list or Taj-Mahal is your favorite, Hampi the second one and so on?

  47. Some iconic attractions on this list to visit. The Taj always looks amazing in pictures but maybe seeing it with thousands of people would not be so grand. I would be happier to see some of the others that are less crowded

  48. I have not seen any of them at all. I am amazed by the details of the statue and the temples. I have no doubt why they are included in the seven wonders of India. Really beautiful.

  49. So many amazing things to see in India. I can see why you included these in the list of seven wonders. I’d love to see the Golden Temple

  50. Truly an insightful blog post Sandy! I was only previously familiar with the very popular Taj Mahal but I’ve learned of so many other man made wonders that are deeply rooted in India’s history! I’d love to visit the Konark Sun Temple to get a closer look at the ancient carvings.

  51. The golden temple and Khajuraho look beautiful with their intricate architecture. It amazes me how the people of those times never had any formal training in engineering or architecture but were able to construct marvels like these

  52. All of them are stunning! Wow, what a great collection you have here! I knew very little of Taj Mahal not until I saw this post. Now I learned a lot about this historical spot. Truly India has a lot of things to offer. It is a country that one must visit in his lifetime. Thanks for sharing.

  53. Wow, I’ve never been to India, so when I go I’d really much like to see those 7 wonders! But then again I’ve never see the 7 wonders of the world… Too many places to see, with an ever increasing bucket list for travels :-/

  54. Yet to see a few of them but amongst the ones that I have, Hampi is my favorite. I absolutely love the place for the hidden treasures it has. Nice to see it featured here.
