Travel Tips To Save Money While Traveling In India

Transportation is the basic and the most important aspect of any trip. Instead of depending on your tourist guides or your peers, you can rent a car on Zoom car, Revv or Rento and roam and explore all the places you want. Or you can even opt for public transport.

1) Check the distances from your hotel to the tourist spots and if the distance is less than 10 kilometers, then you can use Ola or Uber cabs for your ride.

2) Also, download offline maps of your tourist location before starting your trip so that it will help you in finding the routes even in poor network coverage areas.

Pro tip – Check or plan all these things before starting your trip. This will save a lot of your time.

Extra Tip – A trip is not a trip until you create a WhatsApp group for the trip. Create a WhatsApp group and plan your enjoyment there. You can also use a split-wise app to split your group expenses with your friends.

  1. My husband is a genius at finding low price airfare. He does what you recommend, and then he checks out every single airline collaborative site to compare prices, checks airports within a broader distance, etc. It takes him forever, but he usually finds an extraordinary flight deal. I’d love to go to India someday, even if all I do is sit in the little restaurants noshing on curries all day long!

  2. I have never been outside the USA, however, I would love to travel abroad one day. All the posts I read of different places just seem to make my bucket list longer and longer. India is on my list. I want to experience the culture and enjoy all the amazing food.

  3. My good friend is planning a trip to India for next year. I am going to share this with him. You have provided some really great information and I know he will want to save as much money as possible

  4. Wow! This is a really thorough list of great ways to get deals! I never even think of looking at the hotels or the airlines for their own prices. These are such great tips that I’m definitely going to bookmark!

  5. What a great list of apps and websites to help keep travel costs down. There are so many I haven’t heard of. I especially loved the tip about Swiggy, Zomato, and Foodpanda. So often when we’re traveling we don’t know the best places to eat and these would come in really handy! x

  6. These are good tips for anyone planning a trip for sure. I don’t think about checking the companies individual booking site when planning on flights. But I have heard of people getting great deals there. I will have to check that out in the future.

  7. Your idea of getting great offers for hotels can be appied to visit other countries. It is such a great advice. But I am still concerned how we know which hotel to pick so it is suited to my needs and conditions. Should we have a look at agoda or booking dot com first?

  8. It’s great that Zomato is present in India and other apps to order food. Most of the time, there will be unfamiliarity with places and tourists won’t know where to eat. At least these apps take off the guesswork. Food and restaurant reviews help a lot.

  9. great tips. We had great luck using Uber for certain trips like to and from an airport. Was just easier then haggling though I do wish I had downloaded offline maps cause my internet was off sometimes.
Wish I had knows about the food apps when we were in Delhi or Ft. Cochin cause that would have helped a lot when we were searching for food.

  10. Really great tips, I’m a big believer in cross checking online sites for everything from flights to accommodation, transport and food, and it usually changes as to whether you’ll find cheaper prices on the company website directly, or on the third party websites, as sometimes the companies have to agree to take part in exclusive deals for those third party websites. So I always make a habit of checking acoss the board 🙂

  11. Swiggy and Foodpanda sound like great apps to try and get the cheapest meal possible. I am all about saving – especially when it comes to travels. Split-wise apps are also fantastic for splitting expenses so that you don’t have to worry about it later on.

  12. Thanks for these sweet tips on saving money. All the delicious food is one of the biggest reasons to visit India. It’s so cool that there are great apps that help you find great food and great deals. We hope to make it later this year. These tips will come in very handy.

  13. A lot of tips and thanks for the ideas, it inspired me for my tripping planning to India and I am looking forward to visiting there pretty soon! It’s crazy that I have to India but have never been to Taj Mahal!

  14. Great tips! It’s indeed very useful to search the internet, looking for the best prices in accommodations and flights. At one website, the specific hotel can costs so much more than on another. I really like your tips for the local transport. These will definitely help 🙂

  15. These are all great tips, I especially love the hotel and flight search ideas. I’m always looking to trim travel costs so that I have more to spend on FUN! 🙂 I have yet to visit India, but will keep this in mind in case I ever do get a chance to visit.

  16. All of these trips are wonderful! I couldn’t agree more on the tip about transportation. Before any trip, I always see what type of transportation is available and how much it is. I always tell people who visit Japan to NOT take a cab. It’s super super expensive, but you would never know unless you research it ahead of time. Or if someone told you 🙂

  17. These are fantastic tips! I hope to put many of them to use in March! I’m going to put Coupon Dunia to use. Also, it’s good to know I can get a discount on those Western cravings if I order online!

  18. Great tips, but I would never eat at big international chains while in India, I’d much rather discover all the local cuisine! One of the main reasons why I travel to India in the first place!

  19. These all are great tips and we can surely save a lot by choosing right flight and accommodation. In addition, I will say clear the cookies before getting your tickets and rooms booked finally, as the prices change and I have experienced it personally.

  20. Some great tips here for people coming to India in the mid and upper range of budgets. While I think you can happily miss the really budget local transport (although it’s a pretty awesome experience), I do think people of all budgets should absolutely get their noses into some local, cheap as chips, street side cuisine. Provided you stick to vegetarian dishes they shouldn’t have too many troubles with their belly.

  21. These are great and really helpful tips for traveling in India! I think eating local food is the best when visiting a certain place, especially in India. The food there is just so good!

  22. For folks living in the south travelling to Hyderabad, Mangalore, Kochi or Bangalore airport will burn atleast 2000 rs more on the trip to the airport. When it comes to reduced costs, if I am solo, I would prefer trains (tatkaal) or if I have friends we drive together and divide the cost of commute. Helpful tips on the other fronts too!

  23. Airlines and transport(moving around in cars) are the biggest expenses in my trips. Cashbacks in mobile wallets are what I keep an eye on while booking air tickets. Generally I don’t rent a car rather move around in public transport while touring a city.

  24. Flight tickets and hotels are the best bet when it comes to optimizing on tour costs. For me, booking flight tickets directly on the company websites has saved a lot of money. Also, using a premium travel credit card with good reward structure has helped me leverage certain benefits like free lounge access, priority check-ins, free travel miles, and concierge services.

  25. Really helpful tips. Off late, we have learnt to find the best deals on flights, but haven’t tried to use the best card (with offers), need to give it a try. Also, when out, we haven’t experimented much with food apps and websites, mostly gone to the first local restaurant that we spotted and found fit. Will try out the tips next time.

  26. Nice set of tips. Some of these you can even use in your daily life, especially those apps that you have talked of. I knew of some but could not recall them all. Glad I came across this post.
