Rajasthan Itinerary For 7 days – 7 Day Rajasthan Itinerary
Rajasthan is one of the most preferred tourism destinations in India. Here is a one-week itinerary of regal Rajasthan that includes the cities of Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Chittorgarh, and Ranthambore.
Day One of 7 Day Rajasthan Itinerary – Jaipur
The coral-pink city of Jaipur is the gateway to the north Indian state of Rajasthan and also its bustling capital. The city is defined by royalty ever since its 18th-century ruler Maharaja Jai Singh designed it to cater to every whim and fancy of the elite.
The bustling UNESCO World Heritage city is alive with people donning colourful clothes, costumed elephants on the streets and vendors hawking wares and souvenirs in a scene out of a fantasy book.
Spend your first morning wandering the magnificent walls of the City Palace, where Jaipur’s reality still resides. Next head for the Hawa Mahal, or Palace of the Winds, to admire the pink coloured sandstone building, which was given to the royal ladies for the exclusive use of gazing at the streets below in privacy.
In the afternoon head to the Amer Fort, a massive 16th-century bastion of the Rajput rulers. Ride on an elephant to the fort gates which are on top of a hill and enjoy unparalleled views of Jaipur city. Overnight at the opulent Rambagh Palace Hotel, for a drink and a fantastic dining experience.
Day Two of 7 Day Rajasthan Itinerary – Jaipur/Jodhpur
Do something different on your second morning by taking a sunrise hot air balloon ride to enjoy spectacular views of Jaipur from the skies. Return for breakfast and check out of your hotel for your four-hour drive to Jodhpur. But before that ask your driver to stop at the Anokhi Printing Museum to shop and learn about the traditional art of block printing.
The Blue City, as Jodhpur is also referred to, has a local charm of its own. Check-in at the impressive Umaid Bhawan Palace Hotel, a part of which still houses the royal family, where you will be spending the night. In the evening you can take a walking tour of the city which will take you to some local tourist hot spots.
Day Three of 7 Day Rajasthan Itinerary – Jodhpur/Udaipur
Next morning grab an audio tour to the Mehrangarh Fort, which literally towers over the city. On the way back from the fort, stroll through the picturesque Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park. Check out from the hotel and prepare for the long five-hour drive to Udaipur.
There are some special unmissable spots on the way in Kumbhalgarh and the Temples of Ranakpur.
Palaces, forts, lakes, temples and colourful markets make Udaipur a memorable place for a visit to Rajasthan. The City of Lakes as it is popularly known has been luring tourists here for ages. Since money is no object, check-in at the ultra-luxurious Lake Palace Hotel, located bang in the middle of Lake Pichola. This ethereal property has played host to eminent poets, royals and writers from across the world.
Day Four of 7 Day Rajasthan Itinerary – Udaipur
The top attraction of Udaipur is the City Palace, a magnificent white complex on the banks of Lake Pichola. Wander through its huge ornate rooms and admire the many galleries and the amazing art display. Next take a walking tour of the lakefront streets, lined with shops selling arts and crafts. Pop up into one to get a feel of local products. Spend the rest of the day taking a cycle rickshaw ride in the narrow streets of this enchanting city. Overnight at the Lake Palace Hotel.
Day Five of 7 Day Rajasthan Itinerary – Chittorgarh
Next morning after breakfast, drive down to the historical city of Chittorgarh, about two hours away from Udaipur. Upon arrival, check-in at the lavish Fort Begu, one of the finest hotels in Chittorgarh, with a price tag to match. Here guests get to stay in an authentic fort dating back to the 14th century, and still being operated by its original founder family.
Set out to visit the colossal Chittorgarh Fort after lunch. This site of three major wars between the Muslim invaders is a UNESCO World Heritage site, mostly occupied by cheeky macaques who entertain visitors with their antics. Situated on a hilltop, the remnants of the towers and temples are still visible today.
The highlights here are the ruins of the Rana Kumbha Palace and the intricately carved nine-storey Vijya Stambh tower. Don’t forget to catch the extremely educative and visually interesting sound and light show which takes place here every evening.
Day Six of 7 Day Rajasthan Itinerary – Ranthambore Tiger Reserve
You will need the best part of the day to travel to Sawai Madhopur (397km), the gateway point to the famous Ranthambore Tiger Reserve. So start very early in the morning to reach there by lunchtime to catch the afternoon safari to the park.
Your host in Ranthambore will be the chic Aman-i-Khas resort, located in the village Sherpur, Khilchipur, very near to the main entrance of the park. The resort has ten elegant tents, complete with 6m high canopies, air-conditioned, with features such as sitting areas and large bedrooms.
Make sure to inform your host about your itinerary, well in advance, to secure permits to take the safari inside Ranthambore. They usually are grabbed up as soon as they are offered online. Your afternoon safari will start at 230pm in your personal Gypsy, an open-topped vehicle primarily used for tracking tigers in the park.
The park has ten different zones, and you get to travel only in the zone allotted. Your driver and a local guide will take you for a three-hour safari over the swamps and jungles of this once famous hunting ground of the royals. Overnight at Aman-i-Khas.
Day Seven of 7 Day Rajasthan Itinerary – Ranthambore
Today you will get two more opportunities to do a safari in the park. Your morning safari will begin at 6 am and bring you back to the hotel at around 1030am. A packed fully functional breakfast will be kept ready in the vehicle, should you feel like a snack during the long trip. Blankets will be on the seat as the mornings in Ranthambore, especially during the winter months, are extremely cold.
Just like the day before, your driver will do his best to take you to the spots where you are most likely to come across the tiger, the most sought after animal in Ranthambore.
Having said that, you will be extremely unlucky if you don’t come across one, as the park holds as many as 70 individuals in its 400 sq km boundary which is open to visitors. Return to the hotel for rest and lunch and a final afternoon safari on the last day before you head for home.
We hope you find this 7-day Rajasthan itinerary inspiring and are ready to plan your trip to the exotic land of Rajasthan soon. Do let us know if you need any further information.
