Greetings from Sandy & Vyjay!
The rhythm of the seasons is a reminder of the cycle of change that is life. Each season is to be embraced with new dreams, new hopes, new aspirations, and new resolutions. Every season tells its own story, pens its own poem, and paints its own picture. It is February and the grip of winter has loosened and summer is upon us. This February, we see the conclusion of what has been termed the largest religious gathering in the world, the Kumbh Mela. The Kumbh Mela, beyond the media glare and hype, has its own spiritual and religious significance. We decided to delve deep into the evolution and genesis of the Kumbh Mela, and have authored an exclusive post on the Kumbh Mela.February is also the month of love, Valentine’s Week, and Valentine’s Day. Some may argue that this is an alien concept, a Western one at that, however, a celebration of pure love is universal and transcends geographical, and racial barriers. Towards the end of the month, the sacred festival of Mahashivratri will be celebrated across the country, and this will also mark the culmination of the Kumbh Mela.

Incredible Kumbh MelaIncredible Kumbh Mela

The Kumbh Mela is nothing less than a revelation of the soul of India. If one were to look at it with eyes of wisdom, and in the backdrop of its genesis, one can grasp to a certain extent its stupendous significance, beyond all the clamour and ritualistic fervour. To decipher the meaning of the incredible Kumbh Mela, one needs to trace its origins, and what better way to start than by understanding its etymology? There is a mention of the Magh Mela in the Mahabharata as well as other Puranas, and Tamil Sangam literature. Historically the earliest accounts of the Kumbh Mela can be found in the writings of the Chinese explorer, Hiuen Tsang, who visited India during the 7th century.
