The celebrations continue. the months of September and October overflow with the vibes of Dussehra and Deepavali. Dussehra is now behind us, and the fireworks and sweets of Deepavali beckon. The festival of lights unites the entire country in one big communal celebration. Deepavali will see millions of lights being lit, but the nation will miss one of its leading lights, a light named Ratan Tata, a man who was a beacon of philanthropy, integrity, humanity, and of course a successful businessman.
As true travellers, we could not have asked for a better month than September. It was the month when we experienced some of India’s best yet lesser-known aspects. The beauty of Bastar, the magic of Mysuru, and the charisma of Kerala, in quick succession. We shall be covering these extensively on our blog and social media channels. However, we would like to mention here the ancient, and esoteric art of Shadow Puppetry of Kerala, known as Tholpavakoothu.
Shri K. Viswanatha Pulawar and his family have been carrying this legacy for 14 generations, and are striving to keep it alive. Tholpavakoothu has a history of more than 1000 years and can be called the precursor of cinema. It brought the Ramayana alive with stunning effect and was an art that was traditionally practised within the temples of Kerala.
Happy Deepavali, may you have a dazzling festival
