Regenta Resort Sakleshpur

After a four-hour drive from Bangalore, we were at the gates of the Regenta Resort Sakleshpur. Beyond the gates awaited a hidden paradise, as we would soon learn. Sakleshpur is best known for its Coffee; however, its other charms remain veiled under a mist, a secret waiting to be discovered.

Sakleshpur – The Jewel Of The Western Ghats

Sakleshpur - The Jewel Of The Western Ghats

Sakleshpur is an escape into the arms of nature at its pristine best. Its spectacular landscapes are the stuff that dreams are made of. The enchanting beauty of Sakleshpur is described eloquently by Robert. Eliot, in his book, “The Experiences of A Planter In The Jungles of Mysore,” which was published in 1871. Robert Eliot was the second European Coffee Planter to develop his own coffee plantation in Sakleshpur, after Fredrick Green introduced Coffee to the place in 1843. Sakleshpur, which was then known as Munzerabad (Manjarabad) is thus described by Eliot:

“The general features of the landscape may be easily described, but what shall I say of that transcendent scenery, which has often gladdened my heart, and lightened a solitude that would otherwise have been unendurable? What of those wild, fantastic hills, and those pleasant, park-like glades?
What of those sparkling streams which, tumbling in crystal cascade from inaccessible clefts and heights, rush down the jungle-clad ravines to join the rivers which speed towards the western sea?

Mallalli Waterfalls near Patla Betta

What of the gorgeous sunsets, and that splendid cloud scenery which, when the monsoon bursts along the western frontier, presents such a bewildering and fleeting series of combinations that the eye can hardly catch them, and the memory fails to retain anything but a vague impression of all that can be conceived of the sublime and beautiful?”

Sakleshpur, thankfully, still retains, in large measure, the raw and pristine beauty described by Eliot more than 150 years ago. A trip to Sakleshpur is a discovery of a lost Eden.

Regenta Resort Sakleshpur – A Destination By Itself

Regenta Resort Sakleshpur

The road to Regenta Resort Sakleshpur meanders tantalizingly between lush coffee plantations, which are a welcome sight to the weary eyes of a city dweller. The resort stands bang in the middle of coffee plantations that engulf it like a mother’s embrace. As the gates of the resort opened, we got our first glimpse of what would be our home for the next couple of days.

A driveway flanked by lush green vegetation led to the parking lot, from which an inclined path led towards the reception area. Exotic flowers swayed welcomingly in the breeze, a tree laden with jackfruit looked over us benevolently, while the short and emerald bushes of Arabica Coffee made their presence felt.

Yes, Sakleshpur is a destination that offers a smorgasbord of experiences that range from nature, adventure, and heritage, however, the Regenta Resort Sakleshpur is a complete destination in itself, as we found out during our stay there. It is a complete family getaway, with fun activities for kids, moments of solitude in nature for the adults if they so desire, and also other more active pursuits.

Regenta Resort Sakleshpur Reception And Check-in

Regenta Resort Sakleshpur Reception

The reception area of the Regenta Resort Sakleshpur evokes the charm of a vintage Coffee Estate of the British times. Topped with a roof made of Mangalore tiles and with wooden pillars supporting the structure, the design is a delightful fusion of traditional and British design elements.

Regenta Resort Sakleshpur Lounge

A huge painting made by artists from Kerala using natural dyes complements the British style Bar which stands beside the reception desk. Comfortable chairs and sofas are neatly arranged in the lobby. We sank into one of these, as we sipped our welcome drink, after being traditionally welcomed with a Tilak and a refreshing cold towel.

We were soon escorted to our cottage, which was in complete harmony with the surrounding environment. It was a blend of rustic charm and luxurious comfort, right in the comforting lap of nature.

Accommodation at Regenta Resort Sakleshpur

Accommodation at the Regenta Resort of Sakleshpur is in the form of delightful cottages that seem like an extension of the natural environment of the place. We were shown into our cottage, which was so fittingly named the Raindrop cottage. When we woke up in the morning, silver raindrops embellished the leaves and flowers around the cottage.

The cottage, which was 275 square feet in size, was spacious and let in natural light through huge glass windows. Of course, if you wanted to shut out that light, you had suitable curtains to do so. However, the windows connected you seamlessly to the natural beauty all around. The room was equipped with very comfortable King-size beds and had all the required amenities.

The amenities included a Tea/Coffee Maker, Mini Bar, Smart TV, Wi-Fi, an Ironing Board, and a study table to get any work done, if you were so inclined. The bathroom and shower were spacious and equipped with necessary toiletries. A small sitout at the entrance of the room was ideal to lounge in the morning with a cup of hot coffee and listen to the sounds of nature.

“The Regenta Resort Sakleshpur is spread over 7 acres of coffee plantations,” said Mr Subin Somaiah, Front Office Manager of Regenta Resort Sakleshpur. He went on to explain the 5 different categories of accommodation that the resort offered to its guests.

Our Experience At Regenta Resort Sakleshpur

Experience At Regenta Resort Sakleshpur

We spent two nights and three days at the Raindrop Cottage of the Regenta Resort Sakleshpur. We share here a summary of our personal experience at the Regenta Resort. Our stay was studded with memorable experiences, including relaxation interspersed with activities and some great food conjured up by the chefs for us.

Day One At Regenta Resort Sakleshpur | Best Resort In Sakleshpur

Regenta Resort Sakleshpur | Best Resort In Sakleshpur

We reached the Regenta Resort Sakleshpur in the afternoon, in time for the 2 PM check-in. After checking into our Raindrop Cottage and freshening up, we headed to Limelight, the restaurant by the pool, where lunch, dinner, and breakfast are served at the Regenta Resort Sakleshpur. After our drive from Bangalore, we were hungry and had a hearty vegetarian meal. It was a buffet lunch, a delightful medley of local and pan-Indian flavours. We also enjoyed the Tandoori Malai Broccoli, a dish specially crafted by the Chef for us.

After lunch, we explored the resort and spent time lounging in our sit out and also on the deck, which commands a beautiful view of the resort. In a nutshell, we spent the afternoon unwinding and doing nothing, which felt great after the hectic schedule we had been keeping at home.

As light gave way to darkness, the Regenta Resort Sakleshpur erupted in an electric frenzy of colour, light, and music, as the Musical Fountain was switched on. Guests rushed to experience the extravaganza from close quarters. Soon, the music stopped, the colourful lights went off, and the fountains became silent. It was time for dinner, and we were back at the Limelight restaurant for a buffet dinner. We later caught up with the latest NEWS on the SMART TV in our room, before calling it a day. The morrow promised to be an exciting and eventful one.

Day Two At Regenta Resort Sakleshpur

With the ducks at Regenta Resort Sakleshpur

Waking up at the Regenta Resort Sakleshpur was pure magic. The body, mind, and soul were completely relaxed after a good night’s sleep, and as we stepped outside, we were in for a pleasant surprise. The resort was in the tight embrace of a mist, dewdrops glistened on flowers that seemed to be singing with joy. After the sweltering summer vibes of the city, the magical mist simply blew us away. We walked around the resort, revelling in the pleasant weather, before joining the morning Nature Walk organised by the resort, and led by Cyril, the Activity Executive.

Nature Walk at Regenta Resort Sakleshpur

Cyril took us around the plantation where the resort is housed and told us all about the flora and fauna within the resort and in Sakleshpur. It was interesting to note that though Robusta is the variety of Coffee, generally grown in Sakleshpur, the Plantation within the Regenta Resort Sakleshpur consisted of the rarer Arabica species of Coffee. It was an invigorating and informative morning walk, where we learned all about Coffee, and also other plants and flowers that embellish the resort premises.

Cycling at Regenta Resort Sakleshpur

We followed up the morning Nature Walk with time at the Fitness Centre, and a bit of cycling within the resort. By then, it was time for the feeding of the Ducks. This is one of the interesting activities in the resort: feeding a flock of Ducks that inhabit the resort.

Duck feeding at Regenta Resort Sakleshpur

We had a lovely time with the ducks. After the feeding of the ducks, it was time to head to the Water Park, a place that drew the kids like the notes of the magical pipe of the Pied Piper of Hamelin.

Water Park at Regenta Resort Sakleshpur

It was great fun at the Water Park, as we became kids along with the kids. Since we had already got wet, we followed up our fun at the Water Park with a dip in the inviting aquamarine waters of the pool.

All that activity in the morning ensured that we were ready for a sumptuous breakfast at Limelight, the restaurant of Regenta Resort Sakleshpur. We binged on Idlis, Vadas, Pooris, Upma, and more, washing it all down with a hot and steaming cup of filter coffee. It indeed had been a wonderful morning, the memory of which would linger in memory for a long, long time.

We spent the rest of the day walking around the resort and connecting with nature, and generally lazing around, savouring and experiencing each moment.

Day Three At Regenta Resort Sakleshpur

At Regenta Resort Sakleshpur

We woke up to the sound of the pitter-patter of the rain. Nature had treated us with mist the previous morning, and now it was time to experience the rain of Sakleshpur. Incidentally, Sakleshpur is at its prettiest during the rains, and we were treated to this wonderful spectacle on the last day of our stay at the Regenta Resort Sakleshpur. We had a leisurely breakfast before packing our bags and checking out, and embarking on our drive back to Bangalore. The checkout time at Regenta Resort Sakleshpur is 11.00 AM. Our experience validated our feeling that the Regenta Resort Sakleshpur was one of the best resorts in Sakleshpur.

Regenta Resort Sakleshpur Review – Our Take

Regenta Resort Sakleshpur Review

“We feel that every guest who stays here should leave as an ambassador for the resort, and towards this end we ensure that we cover every minute detail related to the guest, right from check-in to their dietary preferences,” says V.M. Sreejidh,  General Manager, Regenta Resort Sakleshpur, and that is what we also experienced during our stay at the resort.

We had a lovely experience during our stay at one of the best resorts in Sakleshpur with a swimming pool. The resort is, of course, beautiful with great amenities and activities backed up with delightful dining options; however, what touched us was the hospitality and the service, which ensured that we were made to feel at home. We left the resort with beautiful memories and the thought that we had another home away from home in Sakleshpur, to which we would love to head back.
