SLCB Unveils SL MICE Expo 2026, Welcoming 120+ Hosted Buyers and Media Representatives from 27 Countries
Colombo, Sri Lanka – 22nd September 2026 — The Sri Lanka Convention Bureau (SLCB), the national tourism organization mandated to develop and promote Sri Lanka’s Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) sector, has announced the launch of SL MICE Expo 2026, which will bring together more than 120 international hosted buyers and media representatives representing 27 countries.
The sixth edition of this flagship MICE event will be held in Colombo from 5–9 October 2026, reinforcing Sri Lanka’s position as a competitive and attractive destination for international business events. The Expo is being conducted in accordance with the SLCB Marketing Plan 2026 and builds on the strong momentum and success achieved through previous editions.
Sri Lanka offers an extraordinary diversity of attractions, ranging from beaches and ancient cities to wildlife sanctuaries and the tea plantations of the hill country, many of which can be reached within just a few hours of one another. These diverse experiences are incorporated into pre- and post-tours associated with MICE events. While Sri Lanka is firmly progressing towards modernization, the country and its people continue to value and preserve many of their traditional customs and take pride in their rich cultural heritage—an important aspect that continues to attract visitors from around the world.
Since its establishment in 2021, the SL MICE Expo has developed from a virtual initiative into a prominent international platform that connects Sri Lanka’s MICE industry with global buyers, media and industry stakeholders. Over successive editions, the event has provided an effective platform to highlight Sri Lanka’s distinctive destination proposition, while opening new opportunities for business development, partnerships and international collaboration.
Sri Lanka brings together an exceptional mix of business infrastructure, natural landscapes, cultural heritage and diverse experiences within a compact geographical area. From pristine beaches and dynamic cities to ancient kingdoms, wildlife sanctuaries and the picturesque hill country, the island offers an extensive range of experiences that can be incorporated into MICE programmes as well as pre- and post-event tours.
The country’s extensive cultural heritage and enduring traditions provide additional richness to the destination experience, allowing international MICE visitors to combine their business engagements with authentic cultural, leisure and incentive travel experiences.
Hon. (Prof.) Ruwan Ranasinghe, M.P., Deputy Minister of Tourism, stated that the Government recognizes the MICE sector as an important driver of tourism growth and welcomed SL MICE Expo 2026 as a significant platform for presenting Sri Lanka’s MICE potential to international buyers and media.
Mr. Dheera Hettiarachchi, Chairman of SLCB, stated that more than 120 hosted buyers and media representatives from 27 countries will participate in SL MICE Expo 2026, creating valuable opportunities for Sri Lankan MICE industry partners to establish international business connections and develop partnerships.
SL MICE Expo 2026 will bring together international MICE buyers, media representatives and Sri Lankan tourism and MICE industry stakeholders through a programme specifically designed to facilitate meaningful business engagement.
The programme will feature:
- A business forum examining current trends and emerging opportunities within the MICE industry.
- An Inaugural Plenary Session featuring distinguished keynote speakers.
- A comprehensive business and networking programme (B2B Meetings) connecting international hosted buyers with Sri Lankan MICE suppliers to create business leads, partnerships and future opportunities.
- Networking events providing international and local industry professionals with opportunities to establish and strengthen long-term relationships.
- Destination experiences showcasing Sri Lanka’s distinctive tourism, cultural and leisure offerings.
- Familiarization experiences providing hosted buyers and media representatives with first-hand exposure to Sri Lanka’s MICE capabilities and destinations.
The event will function as a dynamic marketplace, enabling buyers and sellers to discover new products and services, share industry knowledge and explore opportunities for collaboration.
The participation of more than 120 hosted buyers and media representatives from 27 countries highlights the increasing level of international interest in Sri Lanka as a destination for business events.
Through SL MICE Expo 2026, SLCB seeks to strengthen and deepen its relationships with key international markets while giving Sri Lankan MICE suppliers direct access to decision-makers and influential media representatives from across the globe.
The Expo is also expected to deliver broader economic benefits by encouraging international business events, incentive travel and conferences to be hosted in Sri Lanka, thereby supporting tourism businesses and local communities throughout the island.
