6 Popular day trips from Seville Spain
Besides being an amazing city, Seville Spain is the ideal location to be used as a base to visit other cities of Andalusia. You have plenty to see, do, and eat in Andalusia.
What to do in Seville Spain
Seville is the 4th largest city in Spain and a major historical centre. It was under the influence of the Muslims for more than 500 years. And it was one of the most important economic centres of Spain, with a river port vital in the trans-oceanic trade. All these facts made Seville Spain a vibrant city with a mixture of styles and imposing buildings.
While staying in Seville Spain you have to go to the Plaza de España, a grandiose monument with a beautiful square, built in 1929 for the Exposicion Ibero-Americana. The Maria Luisa Park, where plaza de España is located, has a lake where you can row a small boat, rest or ride a bike. Next, you must visit the 3 UNESCO World Heritage sites of Seville: the Alcazar complex, the Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Sea, and the General Archive of the Indies.
Besides the historical sites that are majestic, Seville has other fun attractions. The amusement park of Isla Magica, a theme park with water slides and roller coasters. The Museum of fine arts, the Barrio Santa Cruz, the Metropol Parasol, and even the Aquarium of Seville. Finally, don’t forget to go to a Flamenco show and try gazpacho.
6 Day Trips from Seville Spain
You can easily spend 3 or 4 days in Seville and use it as a base point to visit the most important cities of Andalusia. The following 6 destinations are must in any trip to Andalusia!
Granada
The biggest reason to visit Granada is the world-famous Alhambra complex. Granada is the farthest city on this list, it is 250 km from Seville, more or less 2h30 (The roads in Spain are in very good conditions so it is easy to drive). Nevertheless, Granada is worth it, you can’t go to Andalusia and don’t visit Alhambra.
Alhambra was a finalist to the new 7 wonders of the world contest. The construction of the palace and fortress started with Muhammad I al-Ahmar in 1238, and over the years palaces and gardens were added. The fortress is surrounded by towers, column arcades, fountains with running water, Arab inscriptions imprinted on the walls, tile mosaics, and carved stucco work. It is a breathtaking place.
Reserve a full day for it. Besides Alhambra, you should visit the Arab quarter and the Mirador of San Nicolas.
Ronda
Ronda is a small town but it is surrounded by astonishing views. The town is 133 km from Seville taking more or less 2 hours to get there.
Ronda is known for its bridge and its steep cliffs. The city is built on the edge of a beige stone cliff making it a beautiful lookout to the fields. There isn’t must to do in Ronda besides enjoying the never-ending views from above the cliff. Therefore it is well worth it for the dramatic scenery. It is a good village to stroll through the streets and eat Tapas in the small cafes.
Ronda is very close to Caminito del Rey, so you can easily hike the Caminito del Rey on the same day.
Caminito del Rey
Caminito del Rey was the infamous “most dangerous trail in the world”. Nowadays it is perfectly safe and unbelievably beautiful, a hike that could easily be done with kids. It is 152 km from Seville and 57 km from Ronda.
El Caminito Del Rey is located in El Chorro gorge and it’s 8 km long, but only 2.9 Km is made in the pathways. You can enjoy the unbelievable beauty of El Chorro gorge while walking in a wooden path 100 meters high.
You will have to book the trail in advance. Note that the surroundings of Caminito Del Rey are stunning you will find plenty of lakes that you can swim and spend some time resting.
Marbella
Marbella is a city with a marvellous beach and a luxurious Marina. It is 200 km from Seville so it’s an easy day trip. The city is a good place to relax, enjoy the sun, bath in the hot Mediterranean sea, eat delicious seafood and party at night.
Marbella is close to Puerto Banos, the luxurious and wealthy city, where the very rich people show off their cars and yachts. It’s a good place to go shopping 🙂 and take pictures of sports cars and yachts.
Malaga
Malaga has it all, fantastic beaches, historic points of interest, interesting museums. It is 205 km from Seville, again only a 2-hour ride.
In Malaga, you can’t miss the Alcazaba and the Gibralfaro Castle. From the Castle, you have amazing views on the town, the port, and the beaches around. Malaga is also the birthplace of Pablo Picasso, so you should visit the museum of Picasso. However, Malaga is mostly known for its gorgeous coastline, in the Costa del Sol, thus a good place to lay on the beach.
Cadiz
Cadiz is a port city, known as one of the oldest inhabited cities in Europe. It also has one of Europe’s most important ports. It is the closest city to Seville in this list, only 122 km.
The old town is especially picturesque with the remains of the city walls and fortifications, the bairros, the narrow alleys, and big plazas. The streets are full of restaurants with delicious tapas. And then there are several beautiful beaches…
The main attractions you should visit in Cadiz are the Roman Theatre, the Tavira tower, the Admiral´s house, and several striking plazas spread through the old town.

I’ve heard so much about Grenada! If I go, I will make sure to visit the other towns which look full of history and natural wanders
I’ve never really thought about using Seville as a base for the region before but actually can see it makes a lot of sense. Although I’ve visited Grenada, Ronda is still on my list and I am sure I’d enjoy Cadiz.
Amazing places! I love Seville just by itself anyway, but those all look fantastic. I’ve been to Malaga and the Alhambra, but it was a long time ago (15 years??). Hoping to go back someday….
The view at the Caminito del Rey looks fantastic! The cliff looks pretty dangerous indeed.. But glad to know that it’s perfectly safe now and can be hiked with kids now.. Definitely a great place for a day trip from Seville!
Cool recommendations btw! 🙂
Flamenco is great and I would love to go to a show in Spain. The bridge and cliffs at Ronda look awesome and even though I am afraid of heights, I would brave it for those views. It is wonderful that you let the reader know how far each city is from Seville. Now if I visit Spain I will stay in Seville and take day trips to see all of these amazing places.
Caminito Del Rey freaks me out a bit but everything else looks incredible – I’m amazed at how much the land and scenery can vary in just a short geographic area.
Just did two: Malaga and Granada. How about Granada? It’s only 1 hour and 40 minutes away!
Spain really does have so much to offer, sadly I have only been to Barcelona so far. Would love to see La Alhambra and other places you have listed including Buño for Tomatina although its probably a bit to far out for a day trip from Seville.
Amazing pictures. Also huge shout out for the recommendations because this will deffo help me with planning. I really want to visit Cadiz sometime soon
I’ve been to Spain a few times, but it’s a shame that I haven’t been to Seville and around at all! Alhambra complex is one of my dream destinations to visit…but there is so much more, especially natural beauty…
The trail at Caminito Del Rey is really enticing too…
These are absolutely nice places to see on day trips in Seville Spain. Looks like Marbella is for me, beach it is aye! When visiting a city, I always wander on the beach or actually look for a beach even for a day! Love sunbathing, endlessly! Also, I would get the chance to take a selfie of those luxurious yachts through its neighbor Marbella.
These are some wonderful day trip options from Seville; Andalusia. I am loving Ronda; Granda; Marcella beaches, indeed all of these. They seem to be filled with natural beauty and are surely making some of the best pictures too.
So glad to have come across this post – I am planning a trip to Spain this summer and will definitely visit Seville and although I may not be able to take all the day trips you’ve mentioned, I will definitely make it to Granada and Malaga. Beaches and historical places are on my agenda and these two places which aren’t very far from Seville will make my trip perfect, thanks for this post!
I recently met someone making plans for a weeklong trip to Spain but seems only Seville takes several days. He he…
Like the rugged landscapes here. It is so much different from the usual image of Spain. I think this is why many of the early Spaghetti Westerns were shot in Spain.
Seville it is truly the heartbeat of Andalusia. We spent a few days here and also did two day trips…to Granada and Cordoba. But Cadiz and Rhona look fascinating too!
Granada is a great place. Very nice! Stayed there for a few days in the mountains at a guesthouse with some amazing views over the city! Also in no time at the beach!
These are completely different idea for what I done in each place will be giving them a go next time I am there.
It’s great to be able to base yourself in one city and take day trips to experience more of the country 😊 I’ve heard wonderful things about Granada, a very popular place.
Seville is one my favorite cities in the world. I dance flamenco for almost 10 years in Lisbon, and really love it. And this is only one reason for liking so much Seville….
I have been to Seville and instantly fall in love with this place. I loved the cultural vibes of this city and yes Flamenco is my favorite. I can go again and again to Seville.
There are so many awesome places ins Spain – the area around Seville must be really amazing too. I would love to visit Malage – this city seems to be reall interesting!
