Technology! Doesn’t the word sound heavy and signify something complex and beyond the understanding of the Common Man? It is; however useless and would die a natural death in the laboratories of the world if not harnessed to benefit the society at large. The most powerful use of technology is, of course, the dissemination of knowledge. To quote Alvin Toffler, the acclaimed author, and futurist, “Knowledge is the most democratic source of Power”.  Nothing simplifies and disseminates knowledge than the apps which have caught the collective imagination of billions of people worldwide. Today apps seem to have taken over our lives. There are apps for everything. There are apps to manage your morning routine so you are ready for the day, ride-sharing apps help you to get to work, you have apps to help plan your work and help increase your own productivity, apps for managing your time, apps for ordering your lunch, apps for planning your evening, apps for planning your birthday, wedding, holiday, or even divorce. You have apps for your medical and health needs. Finally, bizarre as it may sound, there are apps to plan your own funeral and apps that help you “live on after death” by ensuring that the tweets from your twitter handle continue even after you have let go off the handle of life! This is the global scenario and probably more so if you look at the travel apps India context.

Prerequisites For Apps

The best of online apps become useless without the power of a good mobile network. The benefits of the latest technology that apps provide can only be harnessed effectively with the availability of good internet speed. For travelers like us, a good reliable network plays a key role. We are happy that our service provider Bharti Airtel has one of the best networks which is reliable and helps us use our favorite apps seamlessly on the go.

Some Statistics

There is no aspect of life which apps have not touched. From the useful to the bizarre, from the run of the mill to the ridiculous, there are apps for everything. If you look around you can see apps literally everywhere.  Travel is no exception and this is evidenced by the plethora of travel apps one can easily access and download. There are android travel apps, and there are travel apps for the iPhone.  In India alone, there are an estimated 100 million and above App users. On average, the smartphone user in India is said to use not more than around 24 apps from his phone while the number of installed apps could be as high as 200. Our Experience With Travel Apps

Travel apps India

Traveling has always been our passion. It is now a profession too.  With our frequent travels in search of content for the Voyager travel blog, it is inevitable that travel apps have become part of our life. Now that we think about it, it is really surprising at the number of travel apps that have silently become a part of our lives and travels. Checking our phones, both android and iPhone we realized that our phone memories were full to the brim with many of the best travel apps for iOS and Android.

How Travel Apps Have Become An Integral Part Of Our Travels

Travel Apps India - Amer Fort, Jaipur

If you look at each trip like a travel cycle with different steps to it, then we can understand the use of the different apps that are involved in each step. We also realized that these apps that we used on our travels were not all necessarily travel apps. Let us analyze a typical travel cycle of ours based on a trip to Bhubaneshwar. The cycle typically starts with the planning and booking phase and ends when we reach back home.

♠ We looked for the best flights with the Skyscanner app and EaseMyTrip app and did our bookings.

♠ We checked out various accommodation options through the TripAdvisor or Booking.com or FabHotels or TreeboHotelsOYO, and Airbnb apps. After we had shortlisted a few of the places we also checked out the reviews on the Tripadvisor app.

♠ The day of our departure arrived and we called for a cab to drop us off at the airport using the Uber app.

♠ After arriving at our destination, we again used the Uber app to call for a cab to drop us off at the Airbnb we had booked.

♠ We were hungry when we reached our Airbnb accommodation but too tired to go out to have dinner, so we turned to our Swiggy app and ordered a hearty vegetarian meal.

♠ We had a few days in Bhubaneshwar and we wanted to explore some of the sights. So we checked Google search for finalizing our itinerary. We also used Google maps to plan our route.

♠ Once we had finalized our program we used the Savaari app to hire a car for our sightseeing trips.

♠ Our Bhubaneshwar trip was a relatively long one and we were away for a couple of weeks. Many of our utility bills became due during this period and we used the Paytm app clear them.

♠ The summer heat in Bhubaneshwar meant that we preferred the comfort of our airconditioned digs during the afternoons. We spent the time binge-watching some of our favorite web series on the Netflix app.

♠ Of course, we used social media apps including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest extensively.

♠ Our Bhubaneshwar trip soon came to an end and we made our way home, using our Uber app to hail a cab for dropping us off at the Biju Patnaik International Airport.

♠ We landed at Bangalore well past midnight and were thankful for our Uber app which helped us get home from the airport conveniently and safely.

So during this particular travel cycle that took us from Bhubaneshwar and back, we used around 15 apps. We had not realized the extent that we had started being dependent on apps, and probably this is just the beginning. With apps touching more and more areas of travel and life, the use of travel apps and apps in various other verticals is bound to increase. However, the growth of Apps is also dependent on the availability of good networks. In India, the presence of reliable service providers like Airtel ensures the steady growth and use of more and more apps.

Here are some of the best travel apps India:
