The ugly dance of death, choreographed by the heartless devils from across the border, cast its gloomy shadow on Pahalgam, Kashmir, and the rest of India. The diabolic act by the perpetrators from across the border stands like a teardrop on the collective heart of India. Our valiant men in uniform have avenged the death of the innocent tourists and provided some succour to a grieving nation. However, the incident has scarred the lives of the affected families forever. We can only understand their sorrow, but alas, we can do nothing to lessen it. We take this opportunity to pray for the souls of those killed in the dastardly attack. Our hearts reach out to the family members as we pray that they be able to bear the excruciating pain of losing a loved one. We also salute our Armed Forces and the Government of India for their resolve and well-thought-out actions to defend our nation’s sovereignty and its citizens’ safety.

This edition of Voyager Travel Bytes is dedicated to the innocent tourists who lost their lives in the Pahalgam attack, their families, the brave warriors of India and to the resilience of India. Talking about resilience, can there be a better symbol of resilience than the Somnath Temple?

It is more than just a temple; it is the soul and spirit of India. Countless people have sacrificed their blood to protect this sacred edifice, and one of the most valiant acts of courage is that of the unsung Veer Hamirji Gohil of Somnath, who fought to protect the Somnath Temple even after the enemy severed his head. Another story of valour that stays relegated to the dark chambers of history is that of  Kampili Deva Raya, the ruler of a tiny kingdom named Kampili, near Hampi, who stood up to the ferocious might of the Delhi Sultanate and fought till his death.

Yet another lesser-known story of the bravery of our armed forces is the heroic sacrifice of the 1 Sikh Light Infantry Company led by Subedar Pritam Singh in the Battle of Bomdila.

Our hearts go out to the bravehearts who stand protectively on our borders, who keep vigil, so that we can sleep in peace. It is with great pride and pain that we remember the martyrs of the Kargil battle.

Jai Hind!
