3 Days In Dirang – Visiting Dirang Dzong Fort – 9th Century Monpa Village | Dirang Village

The state of Arunachal Pradesh is home to more than 25 tribes. Some of the major tribes include the Monpas, the Galos, and the Apatani. Traditionally the land below Tibet that encompasses the present-day districts of Tawang and West Kameng has been known as Monyul (Land of the Monpas).

Dirang Dzong in Arunachal Pradesh is an ancient Monpa village that is believed to date back all the way to the 9th century. It is at a distance from the bustling town of Dirang. The village in most probability was once a settlement contained within an ancient fortification but has now developed beyond it. However, there are residential houses and small monasteries within the medieval fortress.

It is pertinent to note here that sadly, there is no historical documentation about the period to which Dirang Dzong dates back. Nevertheless walking in the ancient Dirang Dzong Arunachal Pradesh and interacting with its people is an unforgettable experience.

The 108 Mane at Mandala Top was consecrated on the 24th of November, 2018 by His Eminence, Guru Tulku Rinpoche, in the presence of Shri Pema Khandu, Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh.

108 Stupas are arranged in concentric circles around a Buddha Statue, which is being built. The sacred Buddhist mantra, Om Mani Padme Hum,” is inscribed on each of these stupas.
