A land where the clouds seem to kiss the ground. A place where the skies seem to be perennially painted in exquisite blue, a region high up with snow clad mountains and yet cradling an arid cold desert. It is this land that has given rise to a hardy mountain people who keep smiling even in the face of adversity. These festivals celebrate not only religion and spirituality but also are a celebration of life itself and are a medley of music and dance. One of the most important of these festivals is the Naropa festival which is held in the vicinity of the ancient Hemis monastery.
