The place is tantalizingly situated just 206 kilometers from Delhi. The Yamuna Expressway ensures that you reach Agra within 3 hours after a smooth drive from Delhi. The Taj Mahal, of course, is the place to head to in Agra, but equally important and just as magnificent are the Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri. All of these monuments are UNESCO World Heritage sites. And while you buy your miniature Taj Mahal as a souvenir, do not forget to take a bite of the sinfully sweet Indian dessert called Petha which is made from pumpkin.

Towards The Hills – Road Trip to Mussoorie
If you head about 290 kilometers towards the north of Delhi, you will leave the heat and dust of the plains behind and arrive in a picturesque hill station called Mussoorie. The hill station is located at an altitude of about 6,579 feet and has a cool climate. The drive to Mussoorie takes anything about 7 to 8 hours. Do not forget to stop and enjoy the Punjabi cuisine at the roadside food joints known as Dhabas. Mussoorie greets you with a cool and fresh mountain air which soothes you after a long drive. Mussoorie will enchant with its natural beauty. Its waterfalls, viewpoints, nature trails will charm you. While there do check out the nearby and picturesque town of Landour. The famous Indian author of British descent, Ruskin Bond has his home in Landour.
To The Foothills of The Himalayas – Road Trip to Shimla
Another popular destination in the mountains is Shimla at a distance of about 360 kilometers to the north of Delhi. A drive to Shimla takes about 8 to 9 hours. This is one of the best road trips from Delhi by car as it is very scenic!
Shimla is the Capital of the state of Himachal Pradesh and is located in the foothills of the Himalayas. Shimla sits pretty on a ridge surrounded with forested hillsides in all directions.
Shimla was a favorite retreat of the British during the colonial era and was, in fact, the summer Capital of India during British rule. Shimla also serves as a hub for travelers making their way to Manali, a high altitude resort town in the Himalayan ranges. A road trip from Shimla to Manali is also a thrilling experience. Shimla happens to be the terminus of the picturesque and heritage Kalka-Shimla Railway. On the way to Shimla, one passes through the city of Chandigarh which has the unique distinction of being the Capital of two Indian states, Punjab and Haryana. A stop at Chandigarh to visit the famous Nek Chand Rock Garden which is a unique garden created completely from waste is really worthwhile.
Towards The Thar – Road Trip to Jaipur
Jaipur which is the Capital of the Rajasthan is around 268 Kilometres from Delhi. Jaipur is a royal destination in its own right with its amazing forts and palaces. Jaipur is also the place from where one can go on a road trip into the desert state to places like Jodhpur, Bikaner, and Jaisalmer.
One can reach Jaipur from Delhi in under 4 hours.
Jaipur is a city steeped in history and in many ways is a living museum. The original city was founded in the year 1727 and is today known as the “Old City” or “Pink City”, this is because of the color of the buildings that sprawl around this area.
One of the most impressive of the monuments in Jaipur that one must see is the Amer Fort. The Amer Fort is located on a hill and has a beautiful palace and a full-scale town located within its periphery. When in Jaipur one must also see the City Palace a huge Palace complex that has lovely courtyards, buildings, and gardens, the Hawa Mahal which is the most famous landmark of the city and Jantar Mantar an open-air collection of astronomical instruments made of stone and iron.
