The river Kaveri after meandering through the Deccan Plateau plunges into a gorge in majestic fashion to form one of the most stunning waterfalls near Bangalore, Karnataka. The Shivanasamudra Falls are actually two waterfalls named Ganganachukki and Bharachukki that are separated by a distance of about 1 kilometre. The Shivanasamudra falls are located in the Chamarajanagar district of Karnataka and cascade from a height of 98 metres (320 feet).
It is interesting to note that Shivanasamudra is the site of Asia’s first Hydroelectric power plant that was set up way back in 1902. According to local legend, Rama and Lakshmana had passed through this region while searching for Sita who had been kidnapped by Ravana. Karnataka has so many waterfalls and each one of them are stunning. I have been only to 11 of these in the list. I hope to see more of my state when I visit next. All of the waterfalls are surely amazing when there is so much water. Another waterfalls that I love is the Dudhsagar waterfalls.
