Sangti Valley Dirang, Arunachal Pradesh

The crystal clear waters of the Dirang Chu river flowed serenely over gleaming rocks and pebbles at Sangti Valley Dirang. The green of the hills fused seamlessly with the blue and white of the sky to create a scene that seemed like a masterpiece of Claude Monet, the pioneering impressionist painter.

Sangti Valley Near Dirang Arunachal Pradesh has such a surreal beauty that you wonder whether you have jumped into a painting by Monet or have been miraculously dropped right into a poem by William Wordsworth.

Sangti Valley Dirang, Arunachal Pradesh – The Stuff Of Dreams

Sangti Valley Dirang, Arunachal Pradesh

Dirang is surely one of Arunachal Pradesh’s best-kept secrets, overshadowed by places like Tawang and Ziro that hog the limelight. There is so much to see and experience in Dirang, and when you are in these parts, you must visit Sangti Valley. Green pastures as far as the eye can see, clouds hovering protectively over the river, hills standing in silent somnolence, and unique birdlife are sure to spin a web of magic and enthral the visitor to Sangti Valley.

We were in Dirang as part of an 11-day Arunachal Pradesh trip organized by Holiday Scout. We visited the beautiful TDL Monastery that has been consecrated by the 14th Dalai Lama himself and later we were mesmerized by the pristine beauty of Chug Valley. It was then that Holiday Scout pulled a surprise on us, by informing us that we were going to have a picnic lunch at Sangti Valley!

Sangti Valley Dirang – A Picnic By The River

We drove from Dirang to Sangti Valley with much anticipation, and our expectations were indeed met in full measure by our experience at Sangti Valley. We drove right into the heart of the valley and halted on a grassy bank that hugged the Dirang Chu River. It was a spectacular place for a picnic. The river flowed right beside us in languorous abandon and green hills dotted the opposite bank.

Soon the paraphernalia required for the picnic was out; folding chairs, a table, carpet, and of course lots of food. Holiday Scout had everything planned to perfection. So we ate heartily, listening to the bewitching sound of silence, only broken by the gurgling of the river as it passed by us negotiating the rocks and pebbles that lay strewn in its path. A friendly dog welcomed us and joined in the fun as we savoured every moment by the riverside.

It was a great experience, and we felt elated as we experienced bliss in the womb of mother nature. However, it was soon time to break the magical spell and head back along with bundles of lovely memories of an ecstatic evening by the banks of the river Dirang Chu at Sangti Valley.

Watching flocks of snow-white sheep grazing and gambolling amidst the green pastures is a scene reminiscent of the Swiss countryside. However, when we visited the Sangti Valley Sheep Farm, we could not see the Sheep. But the beautiful landscapes and the spectacular views, more than made up for it. The endless green pastures interspersed with golden brown created an enthralling spectacle along with the blue skies.

Beautiful view of Sangti Valley from Sheep Farm

From the edge of the Sheep Farm, a breathtaking view of Sangti Village can be enjoyed. Sange Tsering from Holiday Scout who was accompanying us aptly summed it up thus: “This scene is just like the drawing we used to make as kids, the sun rising behind hills, a flowing river, and a hut.”

It was a truly mesmerizing sight that stretched out below us. The sunlight that peeped out from behind the clouds bathed the valley in different shades of green. Picturesque houses stood scattered around a lazily meandering Dirang Chu River that gleamed in the light. It was a blissful moment as we were lost in the incredible painting created by Nature. The time that we spent at the Sheep Farm in Sangti Valley, were moments of bliss that we stole from time.
