Lonely Planet describes the UAE with the tagline, ” Is endless possibility”, and endless possibilities of the UAE destinations was what was showcased in the Visit UAE Roadshow in Bangalore.
The event was held at the Ritz-Carlton, Bangalore, as the first of a series of three visit UAE roadshow which would also cover the other Indian cities of Ahmedabad and Mumbai.
We were thrilled to be invited to attend the event, our appetite for UAE having been whetted by our recent visit to Sharjah and a flying visit to Dubai. We had some tantalizing glimpses of the alchemy of the seven destinations on our visit and were hungry for more. The visit UAE roadshow in Bangalore provided a perfect opportunity for us to learn more about the destinations in the UAE.
The visit UAE Roadshow was organized by The National Tourism Programme (Ministry of Economy), UAE and brought together the seven destinations of the UAE under one umbrella. An impressive delegation that included Tourism officials, major airlines, senior members from the travel and hospitality industries in the UAE was part of the visit UAE roadshow. They brought alive the magic of the UAE and the unique nature of each of the destinations with great passion and erudition.
Mr. Abdulla Saleh Al Hammadi, Director of the National Tourism Programme talked about the strong historical bonds with India in terms of its politics, culture, and economy and stressed the intention to further strengthen these ties with the Visit UAE Road Show.
UAE – An Alchemy of Seven Destinations
Travel is a catalyst and today travel has undergone a transformation and people look for varied experiences. The UAE promises to be a perfect canvas for travelers to bring alive these experiences. This came across as we interacted with the delegates from the UAE. There was obviously much more to the UAE than skyscrapers and glittering malls, though of course, these too form an integral part of the mesmerizing kaleidoscopic image that is formed by the alchemy of the seven destinations.
Here is a very brief glimpse of what the seven Emirates of UAE have to offer as a travel destination.
Abu Dhabi
Abu Dhabi is the Capital of the UAE. It is also in many ways a living museum of Emirati heritage and culture. More than 100,000 tons of sparkling white marble in the form of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is a synonym for Abu Dhabi. Needless to say, the Grand Mosque is literally just the icing on the cake. And of course, you should not forget to visit the modern family attractions like Yas Waterworld and Ferrari World and have a great time.
Ajman
A 16-kilometer shoreline beckons the traveler to Ajman. An ideal getaway to steal some moments of serenity. A place which enthralls with its beaches, sand dunes, and wetlands. The flora and fauna of Ajman soothe the senses which soar with the graceful flight of the Flamingoes.
Dubai
Dubai is of course in many ways, the glamour capital of the World. A city that is a futuristic and silent tribute to the vision of its builders. A place where structures like the Burj Khalifa rise to the sky from the land which was once a barren desert. A place where the entire World seems to congregate. Dubai is a place that also promises loads of fun for families at its many theme parks including of course the famous IMG Worlds.
Fujairah
Fujairah is a window to the past. The intriguing forts of this Emirate are a silent ode the ingenuity and resourcefulness of the early settlers here. The museums of Fujairah lift the veil to a rich heritage and culture. Fujairah is also home to the oldest mosque in the UAE, the Al Badiyah Mosque is estimated to have been built in the 15th century.
Ras Al Khaimah
With its varied natural landscapes that include mountains, mangroves, and beaches Ras Al Khaimah promises a paradise for nature and adventure lovers. That it now has the longest zip line in the world helps. One can literally fly like a superhero at speeds of 150 Kilometer/Hour for an astounding 2.83 Kilometers at the Jebel Jais mountain.
Sharjah
Sharjah is the Cultural Capital of the UAE. A complete family destination which is a treat for connoisseurs of adventure, culture, sports, arts, archaeology, history. Sharjah is indeed a perfect alchemy of the past, present, and future.
Umm Al Quwain
Umm Al Quwain which is the least populated of the Emirates is also home to some major archaeological sites that have unearthed artifacts that date to the 1st century BC. Evidence of trade relations between the region and the regions of Mesopotamia and the Indus Valley Civilization exist. Al Dour in the region where now stands Umm Al Quwain was a bustling trading port between 200 BC to 200 AD.
The tantalizing glimpses of the seven destinations that we had at the Visit UAE Roadshow ensure that we have them go up on our bucket list of must-visit destinations. Indeed the alchemy of the seven destinations of the UAE holds out the promise of great times.
A promise of adventure, ultimate luxury, culture, arts, cuisine, sports, in fact, the works! It is up to the traveler to decide whether they want to experience the heady cocktail of the seven destinations together or savor one at a time.
